Antonio Portillo, 87, of Plainview, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery. There will be a prayer service from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. Antonio was born on June 13, 1928, in Guanajuato, Mexico to Elias and Brijida (Gutierrez) Portillo. He was raised in very humble means, having worn his first shoes when he was 20 years old. He married Cruz Rodriguez in Mexico in 1960. He wanted a better life for his family so they came to the United States after they married. Together they raised a beautiful family. Antonio spent many years working as a farmer. He raised his children in the country and taught them to work at a very young age. He taught them to respect people and to always be honest. He was a kind, loving, proud and very strong man. He always had ideas on how to work and help his family. He loved people and had a flea market here in Plainview for many years. Antonio loved his wife and never wanted to be apart from her. He has always taken care of her and his children. Antonio was a great father and grandfather and he will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jes?s Portillo, and his brother, Pedro Portillo. Survivors include his wife, Cruz of Plainview; his daughter, Veronica Portillo of Plainview; four sons, Luis Portillo and wife Vickie of Hale Center, Juan Portillo of Dallas, Richard Portillo of Abilene and Carlos Portillo and wife Mary Lou of Plainview; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
