Aubrey Lou Grundy Slayton, 83, of Plainview passed away on April 28, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2016, at College Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Yates officiating and Rev. Don Robertson assisting. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview. Aubrey Lou was born Oct. 18, 1932, the first child of Bert Aubrey and Louise Woods Grundy in Quitaque, Texas. She graduated from Quitaque High School in June 1952 and married Henry Wallace Slayton on June 6, 1952. They moved to the Edmonson community where they farmed. They added twin daughters Jerri Elaine and Terri Jane on March 17, 1958. They moved to Plainview in 1962 where Aubrey enjoyed china painting and she was actively involved in vacation Bible school and was, for a time, church hostess while her husband was chairman of the deacon body at College Heights Baptist Church. She was a member of the Covenant Hospital Ladies Auxiliary; also known as the Pink Ladies, and created many of the floral arrangements sold in their gift shop. She also helped her husband with Meals on Wheels. She was a beloved wife, mother and sister and was a support to all her family. Aubrey Lou is preceded in death by her husband Wallace, her parents, a brother, Dale and a sister Earlette. She is survived by her daughters Jerri and Terri of Amarillo, Texas; her sisters, Adell Winston of Kirkland, Wash., Sue Shannon of Roaring Springs, and Jerry Beth Tyler of Plainview; sister-in-law, Ellen Slayton of Plainview. She has 14 nieces and nephews and their families who called her Aunt Boo.
