Waggoner, Delton Dwain
Delton Dwain Waggoner, 84, of Plainview died Friday, March 25, 2016. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in College Heights Baptist Church. Delton was born Oct. 30, 1931, in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1950. He married Anna L. Satterwhite in 1951, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage together. After farming with his family until 1954, he delivered produce to grocery stores, and then was a fireman with the Plainview Fire Department, before finally finding his calling as a mechanic. He owned and operated Delton & Joe's Garage with Joe Settle until 1969, when it became Delton's Automotive. He worked as a mechanic until his retirement. He was greatly vested in the community and enjoyed helping people. He had many interests including a love of the outdoors, flying and RV'ing. He and Ann were active in the Good Sams Club, Studebaker Car Club, and loved to square dance. He was instrumental in helping to form the Seth Ward Water Authority, which brought city water to the neighborhood. He loved restoring antique cars, and took great joy in donning his top hat and tails to act as chauffeur for his grandchildren, driving them to their proms in his 1950 Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Emmett and Mary Ethel Waggoner. Survivors include his wife Ann; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Cathy Waggoner, of Plainview; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracey and Jerry Bullok of Hobbs, N.M., and Ivy and Fonty Carthel of Plainview; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
