Robinson, Don Shane

Don Shane Robinson, 77, of Plainview passed away at home on March 25, 2016. The family will receive visitors on Friday evening, April 1, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday morning, April 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning officiating and Minister/Interim Hospice Chaplain Bob DuPont assisting. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview, Texas. Don was born on May 10, 1938, in Memphis, Texas, to C.A. and Gladys Sanders Robinson. He was married to Patricia Willis Robinson on Jan. 5, 1974. Don was a Christian and unfailing in his devotion to God and Jesus Christ his savior. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Don moved to Plainview at an early age. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was valedictorian of the Plainview High School Class of 1956. Following graduation, Don attended the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. As an undergraduate student, Don was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma fraternity for scholarship, was an honorary member of Tau Beta Pi for scholarship (having achieved the rank of being in the upper 20 percent in his class), was a member of Beta Alpha Phi for scholarship and was a certified member of Pi Tau Sigma (an honorary mechanical engineering fraternity). Don was a member of Phi Kappa Psi, a social fraternity. Don received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree in 1960. After graduation, Don worked as a Jr. Mechanical Engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., for a period of seven months. Following his employment with IBM, Don served briefly in the United States Army where he was appointed a second lieutenant. He received an honorable discharge in 1967 after serving a period of 5 years in the National Guard. While serving in the National Guard, Don returned to The University of Texas where he completed a Master's degree in Business Administration in 1964. After leaving the University of Texas, Don farmed in Spearman, Texas, for a brief time, then returned to Plainview where he joined his father in the operation of Robinson Seed Company. His farming focused on promoting production of Buffalo Grass and native prairie grasses. In the late '90s, Don ended his career in farming. He enrolled in Wayland Baptist University where he received his Teacher Certification for Secondary Mathematics. Don taught math at Plainview High School, a charter school in Lubbock and at South Plains College in Plainview. Before retiring, he was employed as an engineer at Wylie Manufacturing in Petersburg, Texas. Early in life, Don was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plainview. He later joined Grace Presbyterian Church where he served as Youth Director, was a member of the choir and taught a preschool Sunday school class. On Jan. 11, 1979, Don became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Plainview, where he served on the Administrative Board, briefly taught a 5th grade Sunday school class, was Sunday School Superintendent for several years and a longtime member of the Chancel Choir. Don was a member of Gideons International in which capacity he served as part of the prison ministry. Don is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Judge Robert William Kinkaid Jr. and wife Teresa Sue McMennamy Kinkaid of Plainview; a daughter, Laura Robinson Sears and husband Gregory Brian Sears of New Braunfels, Texas; and a son, Thomas Shane Robinson of Irving, Texas. Don was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren; Trent Robert Kinkaid of Knoxville, Tennessee, Caroline Grace Kinkaid of Knoxville, Tennessee, Abigail Brynne Sears of New Braunfels, Texas, and Kristin Leigh Sears of New Braunfels, Texas. Don is survived by a sister, Kay Robinson Cannon and husband James Cannon of Asheville, North Carolina, and a sister, Ann Robinson Pollard and husband Edward Pollard of Las Placitas, New Mexico. Don is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, C.A. and Gladys Sanders Robinson, a son, Scott Wells Kinkaid, a niece Ann Cannon Smith, his parents-in-law, Clyde Edward Willis Sr. and Irene McPeek Willis, a sister-in-law Loretta Willis Burlingame and husband John Allen Burlingame, a brother-in-law George Ivan Willis and wife Natoma Scully Willis, and a brother-in-law Clyde Edward Willis Jr. and wife Jeanne Morgan Willis. The family especially wants to express their appreciation to Don's caregivers -- Lupe Ruiz at the early onset of Don's illness, followed later by Janie Torres, Ruben Torres Jr., Cindi Howell and Nadi Ochoa. Their expressions of love and devotion for Don could not be surpassed. A special thanks to the Interim Hospice team, an exceptionally kind and compassionate group of workers who met Don's every need. A very special thank you to Dr. Ahmad Sabouni and Dr. Salaman Ahmad for their provision of sustenance throughout Don's illness. Don has donated his body to the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. An interment will follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to The First United Methodist Church, 1001 S.
