Velma Justine Montgomery, 87, of Lubbock passed away on March 27, 2016. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Parklawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. Justine was born on March 18, 1929, in Littlefield, Texas, to William and Alberta (Hodges) Bryant. She graduated from Beulah High School. She graduated with a B.A. in Education from Wayland Baptist University. She married Kenneth Montgomery in 1968 and they were married until his passing in February 2012. She taught for over 30 years until her retirement. She began selling Avon while she was teaching and sold it well after she retired. It was a great way to stay in touch with people. She is described as a gentle soul, quiet and soft spoken; yet determined. She accomplished so much during her lifetime. Justine was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth; her daughter, Kathy Perkey; stepdaughter, Diane Mogg; and one brother, Duane Bryant. Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Brasher of Lubbock; two stepsons, Danny Montgomery and wife Charlotte of Ramona, Okla., and Charles Montgomery and wife Shelley of White Plains, N.Y.; special family member Marvin Burnett; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
