Miller, Arthur B., Mrs. (Mary Clements McClain)
Mary Clements Miller went to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 8, 2016 at the Reagan County Care Center in Big Lake, Texas. She was surrounded with love from her family. A celebration of her life will be at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview on Monday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. with burial immediately following at Plainview Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary was born to Ellice E. and Maggie McClain Givens in Olton, Texas on April 3, 1920. Mary was the older sister to Delmer and AJ Givens. She graduated from Olton High School in 1939 and received her Registered Nurse training at the old Nichols Hospital in Plainview. She graduated in 1942.
In the summer of 1941, Mary met the love of her life, Arthur B. Miller. They were married on Dec. 22, 1941 in Dickens, Texas. That was the beginning of their 57 years together. Mary finished her training and worked at different nursing jobs while Arthur was overseas. After Arthur returned from his three years in the service, their three children were born; Arthur Junior (Junebug), Ellis, and Mary Mag. Mary and Arthur made their home in Plainview until January 1958 when they moved to Petersburg.
Mary worked various nursing duties in Plainview hospitals, then in the mid-1960's she switched to Public Health nursing for the state of Texas and Hale County Health Department. She was very respected for her health care knowledge in the Petersburg community and was called on for advice frequently. She was active in her children's lives, supporting them in all their school activities, and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was very active in the First Baptist Church and enjoyed Eastern Star.
After retirement, Mary and Arthur loved to travel to visit family and friends around the country. They attended as many of their seven grandchildren's events as possible.
Mary made numerous friends in Plainview, Big Lake and Miami while watching the "joys of her life" grow up.
Mary moved to Westridge Manor in Plainview in 2004 and enjoyed making many new friends and renewed old friendships while living there.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Arthur B. Miller, parents E.E. and Maggie Givens, brothers Delmer Givens, AJ Givens, and special sister-in-law Bettye Givens.
Mary is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Junebug and Penny Miller of Lubbock, Ellis and Tresa Miller of Pampa; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Mag and Mark Henderson of Big Lake; seven grandchildren Shane Miller of Spur, Shay Miller of Lubbock, Ty Miller of Conway, Arkansas, Jason Miller of Sunray, Trishelle Miller of Pampa, Susan Netopski of Rankin, and John Marc Henderson of Houston; 13 great-grandchildren, plus one sister-in-law, Enid Givens of Olton.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity or church of your choice.
