Juanita was a 1946 graduate of Plainview High School and a graduate of Lippert"s Business College. Upon graduation from Plainview High School she began working at Montgomery Ward's where she met the love of her life, Bill Hamman. The couple was married on May 20, 1947, and were lifelong residents of Plainview. Bill and Juanita were married 55 years until Bill's death in 2002. They owned and managed The Yardstick fabric store in downtown Plainview for 32 years. After closing the store, Juanita worked for Gabriel's department store for 25 years and at Kristi's Children's store for 3 years. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where she was actively involved in various ministries. Juanita was also an active member of Quester's Club. She is survived by one sister Loretta Rainer of Georgetown, Texas, and was preceded in death by sister Gleva Simmons. Juanita was so proud of the family she leaves behind which includes daughter Latrice Kemp and son-in-law Steve Kemp of Plainview and four sons, Gary Hamman and Kyle Hamman of Plainview, Terry Hamman of Houston and Steve Hamman and wife Kathie of Lago Vista, Texas. Juanita had six grandchildren, Sara Leever of Austin, Jon-Michael Hamman of Harlingen, Mary Hamman of Anaheim, California, Megan Adams and Trevor Kemp of Lubbock and Kali Kemp-Hattrup of Providence, Rhode Island. Juanita still resided in the "Atomitat" underground home at the time of her death which was the family residence since 1967. The Hamman home with Juanita as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was always filled with family, good friends and laughter. Juanita always made everyone feel at home in her presence. She was described by a dear family friend as a "regal matriarch" and an individual who shaped lives by modeling gracious Christian values and behavior in all of her affairs. Her children and grandchildren described her as brave, faithful and an unwavering optimist.
