Chavez, Valente C.,Sr.

Valente C. Chavez Sr., 83, of Plainview passed away on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Valente will be available for viewing starting Sunday from 1-8 p.m. A visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. all at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Mr. Chavez was born on May 21, 1932, in Mexico to Jose and Romoulda Chavez. He grew up in Mexico before moving to Plainview in 1954. He was a farm laborer for several years and then drove a truck for Bruce and Son Moving and Storage. Valente then worked for Daffern Steel and Recycling for 40 years before retiring. He was a long time member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He married Maria Rodriguez on Jan. 30, 1955, in Mexico. Valente was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Olivia Chavez; and a brother, Monsignor Raul Chavez. He is survived by his wife Maria of the home; four sons, Valente Chavez Jr. and wife Cathy of Tyler, Oscar Chavez and wife Sylvia of Plainview, Adam Chavez and wife Cindy of Plainview, Wally Chavez and wife RoseAnn of Round Rock; four sisters, Emma, Elisa, Martha, Eva; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
