Obituary

Jean Young, age 71, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Sept. 24, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Kress. Pastors Will Fish and Bill Fuller will officiate. Interment follows at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Lemons Funeral Home. Jean was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Lamesa, Texas, to Goli Davis and Ellen (Mitchell) Davis. She married Billy Tom Young on Aug. 4, 1956, in Denton. The couple enjoyed more than 53 years of matrimony and was blessed with three children, Donny, Denise and Darren. Jean loved to read and spend time with her family. Family gatherings and attending her grandchildren's various activities were her favorite past times. Jean was a loving wife and mother and a homemaker by trade. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kress. Jean is survived by her husband, Billy Tom Young of Plainview; her children, Donny Young and wife KayLyn of Taylorsville, N.C., Denise Christian and husband Vick of Farwell, Darren Young and wife Vickie of Plainview; grandchildren, Curt Christian, Micah Dunn and husband Wally, Nathan Young, and Jarrod Young; siblings, Donald Davis of Buckeye, Ariz., Glenda Stephenson of Kilgore, Delores Dickson of Ponder, John Sanford of Gainesville and Ronnie Sanford of Ponder; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made in Jean's name to the First Baptist Church in Kress or to Area Community Hospice in Plainview.
