Obituary
Vera Dean Wofford, 84, of Plainview, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Lewis Holland, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Vera was born Jan. 28, 1921, to James Henry Dean and Annie Mae Nations Dean in Marlow, Okla. She married Dr. C.D. Wofford Jr. on June 29, 1947, in Plainview. Vera worked for Billington Realty for many years as a real estate agent and she was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. She dedicated most of her life and time to several different historical foundations, the main one being the Hale County Historical Commission. Mrs. Wofford was awarded the Plainview Cultural Arts Silver Star Award for her help in the advancement of Plainview's fine arts. She was associated with the Plainview Symphony Orchestra, the Amarillo Opera and a member of the Texas Heritage Commission which produces the play "Texas." Mrs. Wofford was a published writer, having compiled two volumes of "Hale County Facts and Folklore." Vera was a graduate of Plainview High School and Wayland Baptist University. She was also a very accomplished piano teacher for about 45 years. Mrs. Wofford was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. C.D. Wofford Jr.; and brothers, Densel Dean, W.H. "Bill" Dean, John B. Dean, Irvin "Heavy" Dean, Tom Dean, Charles "Chock" Dean and Orville "Putts" Dean. Vera is survived by her sister, Verna Alexander of Plainview; nephews David Dean of Halfway, Bill Dean of Lubbock, Travis Dean of Austin, Jeff Dean of Edmond, Okla., Andy Dean of Amarillo, Tommy Dean of Hollister, Calif., and Charles Dean of Dickinson; and sisters-in-law LaTrice Dean and Eleanor Dean of Amarillo and Anne Bogan of Houston
