Funeral services for Olene S. Wimberley, 89, wee at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church Family Chapel with the Rev. Charles Murray, pastor of Bacon Heights baptist Church in Lubbock, officiating. Burial was in the Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Wimberley died at 5:19 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in Heritage Oaks Nursing Center in Lubbock. She was born Olene Springer on July 26, 1912, in Childress. She grew up in Kress and graduated from Kress High School in 1929. She graduated from Lippert's Business School in 1930 and taught classes at Lippert's for several years before becoming a homemaker. She later worked as a medical insurance clerk for several doctors' offices in this area, retiring in 1975. She moved to Plainview and worked as a night
receptionist for Lemons Funeral Home from 1976-1980. She was a member of First Baptist Church. On March 12, 1940, she married David Wimberley in Silverton. He died March 5, 1955. Survivors includes three daughters, Jacqueline Hart of Plainview, Lucrecia Gaston of Dallas and Anita Messenger of Houston; five grandchildren, David Hart of Dallas, Terry Hart of Lubbock, Nelson Messenger of Houston, Mary Presley of Allen and Donna Gaston of Denver, Colo.; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Oneighty Youth Center at Trinity Fellowship Church, 200 S. I-27, Plainview, TX 79072.
