Obituary

Vera Wilson, 77, of Petersburg passed away on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with the Rev. Jesse James Nave officiating. Burial will follow in Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Vera was born Feb. 3, 1935, to Alvin and Bessie Strickland in Rochester, Texas. She married Billy George Wilson on Feb. 16, 1950. She was a homemaker. She worked in the Petersburg Cafeteria and kept children in her home for many years. She enjoyed taking care of her family. She will be truly missed by all who loved her. Vera is survived by her husband of 61 years, Billy George Wilson of Petersburg, Texas; three sons, David Wilson and wife, Naomi, of Gentry, Ark., Larry Wilson and wife, Shanda, of Petersburg, Texas, and Gerry Wilson and wife, Debbie, of Picayune, Miss.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruby Juanita Caldwell of Lubbock and Wilma Jean Sanders and her husband, Travis, of Coleman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Bessie Fay Strickland; four brothers, William Calvin, Alvie "Cotton," Lonnie Arlin, and Wilburn "Bud" Strickland; and one sister, Bobbie Louise Strickland. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prairie House Living Center, 1301 Mesa Drive, Plainview, TX 79072.
