Obituary

Memorial services for Jack Stone Williams, 76, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Williams died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Lubbock. He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Wichita Falls. He moved to Plainview as a youngster where he grew up and graduated from Plainview High School in 1946. He attended TCU on a football and golf scholarship and after a football injury, he became one of the finest amateur golfers in the state. He was a three-time winner of the Men's West Texas Golf Tournament, three-time winner of the Tri-State Golf Association Tournament, three-time Life Begins at 40 Champion, and 17-time Plainview City Champion. He won more than 110 individual and partnership tournaments. In 2000 the Plainview Country Club named its Men's 3-Day Partnership Tournament in his honor. He was a 56-year-member of Plainview Country Club and served as president and was a board member for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Sadie Lee Hart on June 13, 1951. She died Dec. 30, 1999. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, DeAnn and Johnny Stringer of Lubbock; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chad and Miaschele Williams of Plainview and Tod Williams of Lubbock; and three grandchildren, Amanda and Trevor Stringer of Lubbock and Ali Williams of Plainview. The family suggests memorials to the Jack Williams Memorial Fund at the Plainview Country Club, 2902 W. Fourth, Plainview, TX 79072.
