Obituary

Funeral services for Carlton "Carl" Williams, 97, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe P. Weldon officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Williams died at 5:04 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Amarillo Nursing Center. He was born Sept. 10, 1906, in Mangum, Okla., the son of Sherwood "Sherdy" Ransom and Purna Lela Chaney Williams. He graduated from Mangum High School and worked in a freight loading business as a young man in Mangum. He also worked for Dalby Mountains Freight Company for 10 years. He bought a small farm north of Plainview and moved to Hale County. He worked for West Texas National Gas Co., retiring after 25 years. He then operated a moving company, serving Plainview and neighboring communities. He was a member First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Bell of Anaheim, Calif.; one son, Gene Williams of El Cajon, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Jess Forrest Williams, is deceased.
