Obituary
Funeral services for Lucia Gertrude Williams, 94, of Hale Center will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Carrol Green officiating. Burial will follow in Plain?view Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Abell Funeral Home in Hale Center. Mrs. Williams died Monday at Plainview Healthcare Center. She was born March 30, 1916, west of Kress. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1933 and married Carl Coleman Williams on Aug. 2, 1938, in Sante Fe, N.M. He died in 1980. She worked as a nurse for the Tulia hospital, Plainview Sanitorium and Hi-Plains Hospital in Hale Center. She was believed to be the oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Hale Center where she had taught Sunday school and had served as a Women's Missionary Union president. She was a member of the Mary McCoy Baines chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Colonial Dames, Jamestown Society; and a bridge club. She was named Pioneer Woman of the Plains in 2000. Survivors include a son, Carl Joe Williams of Hale Center; two daughters, Lucia McBeth of Kress and Margaret Louthan of Hale Center; a brother, Thomas Franklin Ormsby of Kress; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
