Whitten, Hazie, Mrs. (Lorene Hooks)

Funeral services for Lorene Hooks Whitten, 85, of Lubbock, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Happy Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Leonard Chatham, pastor, and G. Wayne Pope, elder officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Ossie Curry Funeral Home in Lubbock.

Mrs. Whitten died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, in Covenant Health Care Center in Lubbock.

She was born March 13, 1914, in Otto. She lived in Plainview until moving to Lubbock in 1997.

She was a member of Happy Union Baptist Church.

In 1941 she married Hazie Whitten in Marlin. He died in 1958.

Survivors include four sons, Jimmie Lee Butler of Bakersfield, Calif., Urlese Humphrey of Midland, James Whitten of Vernon and Donald E. Whitten of Lubbock; two daughters, Dollena Hobbs of Dallas and Faye Allen of Wichita Falls; three sisters, Jewel Williams of Mart, Vera Bowers of Waco and Allene Iqlehart of Oakland, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; and 58 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of Ossie Curry Funeral Home, 1805 Martin Luther King Blvd., in Lubbock from 6-7 p.m. today.
