Obituary

LUBBOCK - A wake for Marlene R. Whitfield, 59, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at W. W. Rix Chapel in Lubbock with Monsignor Joe James officiating. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Neuman Catholic Church with Monsignor Joe James and the Revs. Glenn Rosendale and Peter D?Souza officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview by Rix Funeral Directors. She died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Ogden, Utah. She was born Dec. 22, 1941 in Cartersville. She was a graduate of Plainview High School and West Texas State College. She served in the religious community as Sister Catherine Whitfield from 1975 until 1988. She was a hospital chaplain at Covenant Medical Center from June 2000 until June 2001. She was a caretaker for her parents, Isaac
Louis and Bertha Mary Whitfield, from 1988 until May 2000. She moved to Ogden, Utah, in June 2001 after being a resident of Lubbock since 1986. Survivors include two sisters, Dr. Sandra M. Whitfield, M.D. of Ogden, Utah, and Melrose Wilson of Sweetwater; two brothers, Shelby Whitfield of Lakehurst, N.J., and Lonnie Whitfield of Houston; and two nieces, Kim Coomer and Kathy Lackey both of Lubbock. The family suggests memorials to Covenant Lakeside Medical Center, 4000 24th St., Lubbock, TX 79410; American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd St., Lubbock, TX 79423 or a favorite charity.
