Obituary

Funeral services for Rickey Lee "Rick" West, 60, of Hale Center will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with the Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating and Dr. Carrol Green assisting. Burial will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center. Mr. West died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Vista Care Hospice Carillon in Lubbock. He was born Aug. 17, 1950, in Littlefield. He graduated from Hale Center High School in 1968. He married Claudia Garretson on Dec. 29, 1970, in Hale Center. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1977. He was employed with Garretson Farm Supply from 1971-2002; Texas Tech Grounds Maintenance Vector Control from 2004-06 and the City of Lubbock Health Department as vector control supervisor from 2006-11. He was a member of Masonic Lemond Lodge #832 in Hale Center, 32nd Degree Mason of Scottish Rite in Lubbock, Red Cross Constantine and District Deputy Grand Master of Grand Lodge of Texas. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randall West and Andrew West, both of Lubbock; his mother and stepfather, Laverne and Rodney Balko of Las Cruces, N.M.; and one brother, Danny West of Fieldton. The family suggests memorial contributions to Southwest Cancer Center, American Cancer Society or Vista Care Hospice in Lubbock.
