Funeral services for Arthur "Peavine" Washington Jr., 66, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Horn, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Joe Washington. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Washington died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. He was a butcher and worked for Jimmy Dean and Excel for many years. He was the first black person to play Little League Baseball in Plainview. He was a member of United Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Loretta Washington of Plainview; three sons, Arthur Washington III, of Allen Hurst, Ga., Donnie Washington of Oklahoma and Jasmin Washington of Tulia; six daughters, Gaynell Bundage of Lancaster, Angie Perkins Washington of Denison, and Kim Washington, Christie Washington and Renea Washington, all of Los Angeles, and Amber Washington of Plainview; one sister Maria Whitfield of Branchville; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His parents and a sister are deceased.
