Services for Edith Waits, 89, of Lubbock will be Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, 10 a.m. at TrinityBaptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Johns, Rev. Richard Harbison and Chaplain Bill McGraw officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.
Edith went to be with our Lord on Friday, Sept. 29, 2006.
She was born July 16, 1917 to John Bruce and Katie Mae (Stevenson) Masten in Plainview. She attended elementary school at Running Water Draw, graduated from Plainview High School and received a Home Economics degree at Texas Tech College in 1941. She married Bill Waits on Dec. 14, 1941, in Plainview. They celebrated 43 years together, prior to his death in 1985. She taught homemaking at Kress and Wilson. In Lubbock she taught first and second grades at Guadalupe and Dupree. She was a member of The Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Alpha Delta Kappa. Edith was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Herb Waits and wife Renee, of Lubbock; daughter, Katie Flemmons and husband Bobby of La Grange, TX; 4 grandchildren Kari Surovik, Kevin Flemmons, Branden Waits and Brian Waits; 4 great grandchildren Keslyn Surovik, Katelin Flemmons, John Waits and David Waits; and one sister, Clara Otelia Clements, of Lubbock.
