Obituary

Robert G. Vera, 92, of Plainview, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015, in Plainview. Mr. Vera was born on June 6, 1923, in Ballinger, Texas, to the late Otto and Eugenia (Gomez) Vera. Rosary for Mr. Vera will be recited on Friday, July 31 2015 at 7 p.m. in Lemons Memorial Chapel. Celebration of Mass will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at 1 p.m. with Father Arsenio Redulla officiating. Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park. Services are under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Vera married Lenora Vera on Dec. 17, 1949, in Clovis, N.M. She passed away on Nov. 17, 1987. Mr. Vera was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister and four brothers. Mr. Vera proudly served his country for the United States Army in WWII, where he received the distinguished Purple Heart award. Some of his proudest accomplishments were going to visit the WWII monument in Washington, D.C.; ironically he landed at D-Day on his birthday. Robert was a very avid sports fan, especially baseball. He loved spending time with his brothers, cousins, friends and Legion brothers. Mr. Vera is survived by one brother; Otto Vera, two sisters; Mary Rodriguez, Josie Soto, four sons; Otto Vera, Robert Vera Jr. (Laura), Randy Vera (Anita) and Martin Vera; five daughters, Angelica Ortega (Bart), Juanita (Janie) Renteria (Richard), Sylvia Gonzales (Max), Lenora Pierce (Larry) and Diana Vera. He was also blessed with 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Accolade Hospice.
