Obituary

Funeral services for Maria Soto Vega, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pedro Urrutia officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. A prayer service will be at 6 tonight in the funeral home chapel where Rosary was recited Saturday night. Mrs. Vega died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, in a Lubbock hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Duncan, Okla., to Rosario and Juanita Caballero Soto. She was a longtime minister of Templo De Alabanza. She started a compito ministry in 1969 in Owatonna, Minn., and later started and pastored churches in Kress, Plainview and Lubbock. She also preached on radio stations in Tulia and Lubbock. Survivors include her husband, Rosendo Vega; six daughters, Anita Garza, Rachel Rivera, Anna Vasquez and Felipa Flores, all of Plainview, Carol Solix of Lubbock and Isabel Vasquez of Hollis, Okla.; five sons, Marcial Flores, Felipe Flores, Tomas Flores and Raymond Flores, all of Plainview, and David Flores of Petersburg; three brothers, Tacho Soto of Dallas, Nacho Soto of San Angelo and Sylverio Soto of Plainview; three sisters, Sista Rocha of Frederick, Okla., Candeleria of Floydada and Benita Laureles of Tulia; 43 grandchildren; and 80 great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Felix S. Flores; parents, Rosario and Juanita Soto; two brothers, Manuel and Tomas Soto; and a daughter, Virginia Flores, are deceased.
