Obituary

Funeral services for Joe M. "Big Red" Vega, 62, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lemons Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Steve Martinez, pastor of New Life Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Vega died Saturday, April 4, 2009, in Lubbock. He was born Sept. 12, 1946, in Odom to Abelino and Juanita Vega. He married Yolanda Cortez on March 31, 1970, in Floydada. He worked for Cargill Meat Solutions for 33 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Roland Vega of Amarillo, Eddie Vega of San Angelo and Michael Vega and Richard Vega, both of Plainview; five brothers, John Vega of Plainview and Albert Vega, David Vega, Mike Vega and Roy Vega, all of Minnesota; five sisters, Yolanda Trevino of Lubbock and Gloria Vega, Nina Barrick, Mary Vega and Elizabeth Lee, all of Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His parents; one brother, Steven Vega; and one sister, Maria Ignacia Vega, are deceased.
