Obituary
Cora Lee Churchwell Jacobs Vaughn went to be with her Lord, Tuesday morning, January 24, 2012. The service celebrating her life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 26, in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Carroll Green and the Rev. Robert Malcom officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center. Cora Lee was born March 24, 1913, in Comanche County, Texas, to James and Cora Effie Churchwell. In 1925 the Churchwell family moved to Hale County in the Prairieview community. Soon the family relocated to the Snyder community southeast of Plainview where Cora and her siblings attended school. Cora Lee married Bert Jacobs in Lubbock on January 11, 1936. They began their life together farming east of Plainview. There the Lord blessed them with three precious daughters - Donna Sue, Sandra and Marsha. In 1946, the young family moved four miles east of Hale Center where they spent the next 43 years raising their girls, farming, hosting Home Demonstration Club and loving on their grandkids and many others. Bert and Cora Lee spent 58 years together, but the last nine years were truly the testimony of their love and devotion. As Bert's health deteriorated, Cora Lee faithfully served him year after year. They moved into Hale Center in 1989 to better facilitate his care. She readily adjusted to this new season in her life and so enjoyed family get-togethers and club in her home so she could participate. On January 31, 1994, Bert went to be with the Lord. Several months later an old classmate, Harold Vaughn, stopped by to see Cora Lee and a friendship developed. They were married March 11, 1995, in Hale Center. They enjoyed four years together traveling and volunteering at church. Harold passed away February 8, 1999. Cora Lee was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a sister, Vera Castleberry; and five brothers, Charlie, L.B. "Doc," Marvin, James and W.R. "Mutt" Churchwell. Another sister died in infancy. She is survived by one sister, Mavis McLain of Bentonville, Ark; her children, Carl and Donna Hulsey of Bosque Farms, N.M., Don and Sandra DeJarnett of Hale Center and Glen and Marsha Watkins of Plainview; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
