Obituary

Funeral Mass for Stella Maria Vargas, 67, of Hale Center will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the church. Mrs. Vargas died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at her residence in Hale Center. She was born Feb. 8, 1942, in Hale Center. She married Felix Vargas Feb. 14, 1970, in Plainview. He died Sept. 24, 1996. She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons, Steve Rocha of Phoenix, Tom Rocha of Denton and Fernando Vargas of Lubbock; five daughters, Sylvia Castillo of Hale Center, Christine Castillo of Harker Heights, Tina Martinez of Plano, Misty Vargas of Plainview and Stacy Vargas of Lubbock; nine brothers and sisters; Tony Garcia and Martin Garcia, both of Hale Center, Ruby Castillo of Lubbock, Julia Rocha and Alice Caberra, both of West Valley City, Utah, Claudie Garza of Parkersville, W.Va., Josie Ridenour of Wabash, Ind., Manuel Garcia of Boise, Idaho, and Gloria Soto of Phoenix.; 28 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
