Obituary

John Vanderslice was born Aprl 23, 1842, at Nolandsville, Tenn. Surviving him are his wife, Delila Jan Vanderslice (nee Wilson), two daughter, Mrs. J.S. Nummy, Houston, Texas, and Mrs. Lillie Lacy, Turkey, Texas, and four sons, E.M. Vanderslice, Valley View, Texas; R.W. Vanderslice, Valley View, Texas; J.M. Vanderslice, Tulia, Texas; and J.H. Vanderslice, Tulia, Texas. All his children were with him during his last hours.
Mr. Vanderslice served four years in the Civil War, belonging to Company I, 3rd Arkansas and Texas. About the close of the war he came to Johnson County, Texas. In about 1880 he removed to North Central Texas, near Gainesville, where he lived principally after that time, having only lived in Plainview about 7 months. (Hale County Herald, December 6, 1912)
