Obituary

A private memorial graveside service for Velmah Van Hoy, 97, is planned for a later date in Plainview Cemetery. Arrangements are with Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Van Hoy died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009. She was born Sept. 25, 1911, in Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School. She married Aubrey Connor Van Hoy on Dec. 8, 1929, in Clovis, N.M. She was a bookkeeper for several retail stores in the area, including JCPenney, and was a seamstress. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Survivors include her son-in-law, William Guy DeLaney of Virginia Beach, Va.; her cousins, Glynn Anderson Turner of Lubbock and Beth Anderson Caldwell of Plainview; and seven grandchildren. Her son, Anderson Connor Van Hoy; and daughter, Alice Charlotte Van Hoy DeLaney, are deceased.
