Uptergrove, Clyde Hershelle,Sr.

HALE CENTER ? Funeral services for Clyde Uptergrove, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Meacham, pastor, and the Rev. J. Dean McNamara, VistaCare Family Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Burial will be in Hale Center Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home.

Mr. Uptergrove died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, in Hi-Plains Nursing Home in Hale Center.

He was born May 31, 1908, in Seymour. He moved to Hale Center in 1927 from Petersburg and owned and operated Clyde?s Garage, retiring in 1968.

He was a member of the Lions Club, First Baptist Church and a Boy Scout leader. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

On April 8, 1930, he married Jewel Walls in Clovis, N.M. She died April 6, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Roy Uptergrove and Ron Uptergrove of Hale Center; one daughter, Betty Owens of Hale Center; two sisters, Earlene ?Winnie? Johnson of Abernathy and Irene Loyd of Silverton; a sister-in-law, Eunice Uptergrove of Hico; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
