Obituary

Ben Tye, 90, of Kress passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at Prairie House Living Center in Plainview. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today, June 27, 2007, at Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Kress with the Rev. Jay Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Wood-Dunning Funeral Home in Plainview. Ben was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Plainview to John Madison Tye and Dora E. Morris Tye. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1935. Ben married Katheryne Miller on Nov. 13, 1937, in Plainview and moved to Kress in 1947 to start farming and ranching. He was very active in the community and served on many different boards including the ASCS Board, Kress School Board, Swisher Co-op Gin Board, Farmers Co-op Board, First National Bank (presently Wells Fargo) for 20 years and the Tule Creek Water Conservation Board. Ben served his country in the U.S. Army from 1943-44 and he enjoyed racing horses. Mr. Tye was preceded in death by one daughter, five sisters and two brothers. Ben is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Katheryne Tye of Kress; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Lynda Tye and Benny and Ginger Tye, all of Kress; seven grandchildren, Brandon Tye and wife, Vickie; Darren Tye and wife, Shelly; Brent Tye and wife, Codee; Kim Street and husband, Johnny; Michelle Clark and husband, Mike; Annette Childress and husband, Brad; and Trudi Tucker and husband, Chad; and 17 great-grandchildren.
