Obituary

Golda Glynn Anderson Turner, a longtime resident of Brownfield, Texas, died Jan. 29, 2013, in Athens, Texas, after a short illness. She was born Nov. 9, 1919, to Golda Dixon Anderson and Elmer Roscoe Anderson, who were early pioneers in Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1937, after which she attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. In 1940 she received a BA in commercial art. She was a member of the Gargoyle Society, Engineering Society and Alpha Chi Omega. She later returned to Texas Tech to do graduate work in elementary education. Glynn married K. Lanse Turner Sr. on June 8, 1941, in Plainview. He entered the Army Air Corps upon graduation from Texas Tech, and they moved repeatedly during WWII. They returned to West Texas in 1952 to farm cotton in Terry County. Glynn and Lanse brought three children into the world: Kenneth Lanse Turner, Jr., deceased 2009; the Rev. James Scott Turner of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Mary Rebecca Hisey, Esq., of Athens, Texas. All three were graduates of Brownfield High School. K. Lanse died Sept. 26, 2004. Her parents-in-law were A.W. and Mallie Turner of Brownfield. Her brother and sister-in-law were J.E. and Juanda Smith of Brownfield. She leaves behind her sister, Beth, in Warrenton, Va., six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five nephews, a niece, and numerous extended family members. Glynn taught fourth and fifth grades at Colonial Heights Elementary and Brownfield Intermediate School for more than 20 years. She retired in 1985. She and Lanse were founding members of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. She served in many positions within the local church and was on the Executive Council of the Diocese of Northwest Texas. She volunteered for several years on the Auxiliary of Brownfield Regional Medical Center. She was a former member of Alpha Omega Study Club and Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's society. She was a member of both the Texas and Terry County Retired Teachers Associations. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a dedicated Christian and teacher. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Church of the Good Shepherd, 304 E. Lanny, the Rev. Jim Haney presiding. Glynn will be interred in the Anderson family plot in Plainview Cemetery alongside her husband, son and parents. Memorial gifts may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd.
