HALE CENTER - Funeral services for Kathleen L. Turner, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Gene Meacham and the Rev. Ted Latham, former pastors, officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home. Mrs. Turner died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton. She was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Sweetwater. She moved to Hale Center from Roscoe in 1951 and worked as a registered nurse. She was director of the nursing school at Hi-Plains Hospital in Hale Center as well as the director of nursing schools at Plainview Independent School District and South Plains College in Plainview. She was a past president of the Women For Wayland and a member of Hale Center First Baptist Church and the Gideon?s Auxiliary. On Feb. 8, 1948, she married Cecil Turner in Abilene. He died Feb. 9, 1986. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Sue Turner of Plainview; three daughters and sons-in-law, Viki and Ron Hicks of San Marcos, Kathie and Mike Jackson of Olton and Terri and Doug Burke of Amarillo; a brother, O.B. Freeman of Sweetwater; and nine grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Cecil and Kathleen Turner Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wayland Baptist University, 1900 W. Seventh, Plainview, TX 79072 or at American State Bank in Plainview; or to the Gideon?s International.
