Thrasher, John Albert
Funeral services for John Albert Thrasher, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Assembly of God with the Rev. Neil Unwin, pastor and the Rev. E.D. Throckmorton retired Assembly of God minister, officiating.
Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home.
Mr. Thrasher died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Prairie House Living Center.
He was born April 21, 1912 in Quay County, near Logan, N.M. He grew up in Porter Valley and attended school in Porter and San Jon, N.M. He married Joyce Edna Cantrell on Jan. 21, 1933 in Tucumcari, N.M.
Although he was unable to serve in the military during World War II, he helped the government build missile sites east of Roswell, N.M. and also made landing strips for war planes close to Roswell and Clovis. He moved to Portales after the war ended and lived there until moving to Matador in 1953. He moved to Plainview in 1959 and opened Thrasher Excavation, a Demolition and dirt contracting business, in 1960. He retired in 1977.
He was a member of First Assembly of God.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita Mae and Gene Baker of Kennewick, Wash. And Carolyn Joyce and Doyle Rose of Matador; three sons, John Franklin Thrasher of Mt. Vernon, and Clinton Ray Thrasher and Albert K. Thrasher, both of Plainview; five sisters, Edna Flint of San Jon, N.M., Ione Woolman of Farmington, N.M., Oneta Irving and Nellie Brown, both of Logan, N.M., and Laura Brittian of Woodward, Okla.; two brothers, Ray Thrasher of San Jon; 17 grandchildren, 34great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A daughter, Texanna Del Wilcher, died May 5, 1991; a brother, Leo Thrasher, died Aug. 4, 1974; and a grandson, Kenny Rose, died in 1997.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Thrasher, Scott Thrasher, Jim Thrasher and Eric Williamson. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Wilcher, Don Baxter, Jace Francis, Calvin Wilcher, Tyler Hjorth and Linzy Barton Jr.
The family suggests memorials to First Assembly of God, 1300 N. I-27, Plainview, TX 79072.
The family will be at the funeral homefrom 5-6 p.m. today.
