Obituary
Funeral services for Ethel Vernell Thomas, 61, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David M. Gardner, pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home. Mrs. Thomas died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born June 11, 1940, in Caldwell. She moved to Plainview in 1972 from Hamlin and worked as a private caregiver and also for First United Methodist Church as a wedding hostess. She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and active in the Women?s Study Club, church choir, church Missionary Society and the Black Awareness Committee. On June 12, 1978, she married Jack H. Thomas in Plainview. Survivors include her husband; four daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Willie Lacy and Eunice and Tommie Scott, all of Plainview, Brenda and Corey Cornish of Arlington and Mary and Herman Moore of Amarillo; two sisters and and brothers-in-law, Charles Etta and Chinell Smoots of Plainview and Yvonne and the Rev. Gregory Franklin of Arlington; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Lester and Joyce French of Tucumcari, N.M., L.C. Hall Jr., Quincy Hall and Edward Wayne and Patricia Hall, all of Plainview, Bobby and Nell Hall of Casa Grande, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter Her parents, L.C. Hall and Corene French Hall, are deceased and a brother, Napoleon Hall, died in March of 1977. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
