Obituary

ABERNATHY - Funeral services for M. Dale Thickstun, 74, of Abernathy, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Bass, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mr. Thickstun died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Feb. 18, 1927, Brown County, Indiana. He was raised in Nashville, Ind., and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Pensacola from 1945-1947. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he moved to Texas. He married Ann Kerr on Jan. 29, 1949, in Lubbock, and in 1968 they moved from Lubbock to Abernathy. Mr. Thickstun was manager for Energas Co., until his retirement in 1985. They owned and operated the Country Peddler Antiques in Abernathy since 1978. Mr. Thickstun was a member of the Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge, the Abernathy Lions Club and the Abernathy Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife; one son, Jon Thickstun of Corpus Christi; one daughter, Juliana Peyravy of Tulsa, Okla.; and four grandchildren, Sarah Peyravy, Johnathan Peyravy, Rebekia Peyravy and Chloe Thickstun. The family suggests memorials to Abernathy EMS, c/o Darrell Stephens, 1609 Ave. H, Abernathy, TX 79311.
