Obituary
Lucyle Terry, 95, of Plainview, beloved wife of Clyde and mother of Judy, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at First Christian Church with Dr. Max Browning officiating and Kevin McLain assisting. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the fun?eral home. Lucyle was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Hillsborough, Texas, to Bill and Kitty McCrory. She grew up in Plain?view and graduated from Plainview High School and Lippert's Business College. She was a bookkeeper and worked for Clary's Produce, Wynn Motor Company and Jack Morris Ford before retiring in 1977. Even after retirement she continued working part-time at United Co-op Gin, Lider Gin, The Village Shop and Dorothy's. Lucyle worked at a time when most women did not work outside the home. She did this even though her passion was her family and homemaking, such as cooking, canning and preparing feasts for family and friends. She was a member of First Christian Church for 87 years. She also was a member of the Pink Ladies, the Ladies Auxiliary of Covenant Hospital Plainview where she volunteered countless hours and was known as the "Candy Lady." In 2009, Lucyle was recognized as the 81st Pioneer Woman of the Plains. Lucyle married Clyde Richard Terry on Dec. 20, 1936, in Clovis, N.M. Clyde preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard McCrory; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Sue Golden and Lena Bill and Jim Alair. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Terry Barbatoe ("My Judy" Lucyle called her), and her son-in-law, John Vera, both of Pasadena, Calif.; nieces, Carol Lane of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Glenda "Bitsy" Sibley of Lubbock; nephew, Jim Terry of Lubbock; daughter of the heart, Judy Wiggins of Plainview; cousins, Bob McCrory, A and R Maddox and Marie Wellmon; families of the heart, the Gene McLain Family, Troy and LaJuana Welch, Jean Bennett, Jack Morris, the Ron Shannon family, Ed Vadder family and her church family.
