Obituary

Funeral services for Florence Evelyn Strickland, 96, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Oct. 29, 2008, at First Christian Church with Dr. Max Browning officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview. Mrs. Strickland died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Prairie House Living Center of Plainview. She was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Pleasanton, Texas, to James Lee Mann and Alice Ainsworth Mann. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church. She loved flowers, cooking, crafts, fishing, music of all types and her family. She lived in Plainview since 1980, coming from Okemah, Okla. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Edwin L. Vadder of Plainview; one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin Lee and Sarah Strickland of Picayune, Miss.; seven grandchildren, Melia Van Kirk, Delesa Sweet, Bryson Vadder, Lelana Hudgens, James Lee Strickland, Stanley Strickland and Carrie Strickland; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Strickland; one son, James Strickland; three brothers; and a sister.
