KRESS - Funeral services for Joe M. Steward, 81, will be at 2; p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dewayne Wolf, pastor, officiating Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Steward died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, in Temple. He was born July 13, 1920, in Plainview. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945. He owned Steward Service & Supply from 1946 to 1991. He was a past president of Kress KeenAgers from 1990-1996 and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 260, Veteran of Foreign Wars 5399 and Disabled American Veterans 141 in Plainview. He had served as post commander for the VFW 5399 and DAV 141. On Feb. 13, 1949, he married Mary Evaline "Evelyn" Boggs in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Sam Hooker of Temple; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jay and Debbie Steward of Congers, N.Y., Nickey and Teresa Steward of Temple, and Jerry Steward of Roanoke; one sister, Betty Rogers of Temple; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
