Dorothy Louise Patterson Stephens, 93, formerly of Plainview, passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at her home in Brownwood. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, in Plainview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Oct. 17, 2010, at Lemons Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 14, 1917, to Rico and Cordelia Bracken Patterson in Plainview. She attended Plainview schools. She married James Harold Stephens on Jan. 18, 1934. He died in 1990. Louise and Harold ran a ceramic shop for several years in Plainview where she taught ceramics. She loved oil painting and was a member of Rebekah Lodge and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Surley of Brownwood; two sons, Thomas Stephens and his wife, Lee, of Idaho Springs, Colo., and Richard Stephens and his wife, Stanna, of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Arnold Surley and his wife, Pamela, of San Angelo, Morris Surley and his wife, Carol, of Brownwood, Leslie Surley of San Monica, Calif., Greg Stephens and his wife, Connie, of Wasilla, Alaska., Kari Stephens of Littleton, Colo., Staci Gates and her husband, Greg, of Aurora, Colo., and Grant Alkire of Houston; great-grandchildren include Kourtney Stahl and her husband, T.J., of Robert Lee, Texas, Loren Surley and his wife, Geri, of Colorado Springs, Christian Surley of Fort Worth, Jeffrey Stephens of Wasilla, Alaska., Dana Marie Griffin of Wasilla, Alaska., and Taylor and Brooke Gates of Aurora, Colo.; a great-great-grandchild, Sidni Griffin of Wasilla, Alaska.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Charles Stephens; son-in-law, O.C. Surley; grandson, Dane Paul Stephens; four brothers, Willard, Wayland, Kenneth and Glen Patterson; and a sister, Helen Woody.
