Obituary

Funeral services for Deris Steelman, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Roger Foote, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, officiating. Private burial will be in Plainview Cemetery. Mr. Steelman died at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. He was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Gilmer, the son of Eskar and Zula Sparks Steelman. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and moved to Plainview in 1957. He worked for Hale County as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1994. He was a Baptist. He married Viola Mary Brink. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Deryl and Kim Steelman of Paris; a daughter, Carla of Paris, Texas; two brothers, J.E. Steelman of Dallas and Berry Steelman of Gilmer; and a granddaughter.
