Funeral services for Howard Stapleton, 85, will be at 11 a.m. in Wood-Dunning Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Drew Travis, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

Mr. Stapleton died at 10 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001, in Prairie House Living Center.

He was born June 25, 1916, in Hamilton. He moved to Plainview in 1946 and was co-owner of Stapleton Brothers Machine & Tank Co. He was a member of the Plainview Elks Lodge, serving as exalted ruler four terms and was state president. He also served as president of the Plainview Rodeo Association sveral terms and was president of the Hale County Sheriff?s Posse Riding Club which received top honors and many first place trophies. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

On Aug. 18, 1938, he married Emma Lee in Petersburg.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Don Stapleton of Lubbock; two brothers, M.O. Stapleton of Plainview and Bynum Stapleton of Petersburg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Eulita Jan Stapleton Bourland, died in 1971.
