Obituary

PETERSBURG - Funeral services for Bynum J. Stapleton, 79, were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church in Abernathy, officiating. Burial was in Petersburg Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Stapleton died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Lubbock Covenant Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1922 in Hamlin. He was a longtime resident of Petersburg and was employed by Wylie Manufacturing. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Clara Hildreth on July 6, 1940 in Petersburg. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Cynda Shirey of Austin; a son, Rick Stapleton of Houston; a brother, M.O. Stapleton of Plainview and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to the Petersburg Cemetery or First Baptist Church Building Fund or Van Fund in Petersburg.
