Obituary
Funeral services for Leona "Lony" Staggs, 88, will be at 3 p.m. Monday in College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Robertson, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Roecker, former education minister and now pastor of First Baptist Church in Sudan, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Staggs died at 10:20 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, in Covenant Hospital. She was born Dec. 25, 1913, in Rockdale. She worked for 27 years in the Plainview Independent School District as a cafeteria worker. She also worked at the Plainview Senior Citizens Center for several years. She was an active member of College Heights Baptist Church. On April 12, 1945, she married Dale Sullivan Staggs in Burlington. He died in 1976. Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Staggs of Plainview; four sisters, Mrs. Jesse Gillham of Odessa, Mrs. Neil Brumlow of Magnolia, Gladys Jaggers of San Antonio and Mrs. Freddie Brumlow of Hempstead; four brothers, J.T. Jaggers of Hempstead, Clyde Jaggers of Fort Smith, Ark., Jeff Jaggers of San Antonio and Lee Jaggers of Pasadena. A brother and three sisters are deceased. Kergus Jaggers died in 1938, Clara Glass died in 1994, Minnie Leidecker in 1995 and Bessie Rackley in 1998. The family suggests memorials to College Heights Baptist Church or to a favorite charity. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
