Obituary
Jessie N. "Pat" Spencer, 75, of Plainview passed away Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Southwest Regional Medical Complex in Lubbock. Family will receive friends the evening of Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at 2204 W. 12th St., in Plainview. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Trinity Fellowship Church with the Rev. Wally Chavez, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Garden under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Pat was born March 3, 1931, in Anton, Texas, to James Thomas Newton and Corrine Winnie Paulk Newton. She was raised in Littlefield and attended school and graduated from Littlefield High School in 1947. Pat then joined the Navy so she could see the world and take part in protecting her country. She married Virgil A.P. Spencer on March 10, 1973, in Plainview. After the marriage, they settled in Plainview and she worked for the Post Office as a window clerk until her retirement in 1981. While working for the postal department, she became a member of the National Association of Federal Employees. She also was a member and treasurer of TOPS since 1986. Pat was a charter member of the Trinity Fellowship Church. She was a great friend to all that knew her and a very giving and generous person to all that need help or assistance getting to doctor's appointments or to church. Mrs. Spencer was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband Virgil Spencer in 1998. Pat is survived by stepson Bobby Spencer and wife Eva of Wichita Falls, TX; stepdaughter Sheila Spain and husband Marion of Lubbock, TX; grandson Mark Spain and wife Sheri of Shallowater, TX; granddaughters Shelley Spencer of Plainview, Kim Spencer of Dallas, TX and Marty Haley of Canyon, TX.; great-grandsons Seth Spain and Chase Spain; great granddaughters Shelby Spain and Madison Haley; nephews Mike Nelson and wife Altie of Plainview and Pat Nelson and wife Dathy of Elgin, Ill.; great-nieces Kristi Kunselman and husband Shawn of Plainview, Elezabeth Nelson of Elgin, Ill., and Patsy Fipps and husband Justin of Plainview; great-nephews Jay Nelson of Peterson, Colo., Troy Nelson of Lubbock, TX, John Dunbar of Ocean Springs, Ms., Patrick Nelson of Elgin, Ill., and Joseph Nelson of Elgin, Ill.; 10 great-great-nieces and nephews; special family friends Janis Horton of Plainview, Mona Spencer of Plainview and John and Alice Creed of Hobbs, N.M. The family suggests memorial be made to the Diabetes Association, the Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
