Obituary
Funeral services for Haskell U. "Hack" Spain, 86, will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Bartley Memorial Chapel in Plainview with Ron Huckeby, lay minister of Plainview, officiating. Burial will be in the Plainview Cemetery by Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Spain died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, in Northeast Medical Center in Bonham. He was born July 6, 1919, in Colgate, Okla. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Air Force, former superintendent for street and sanitation in Plainview, former owner of a service station on Fifth and Denver and also worked for Plainview Industrial Co-op for many years. He had lived in Plainview since 1926. He also ran the clock for Plainview High Bulldog football games for 38 years. He married Vivian McGuire on Jan. 15, 1956 in Plainview. She died April 1, 2004. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwane and Bobbie McGuire of Plainview and Darrell and Joy McGuire of Sun City West, Ariz.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nelda and James Foster of Toledo Bend, La. and Cleta and James Moore of Weston; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Faye Brown of Roanoke; one sister-in-law, Emmaline Spain of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-7 tonight at the funeral home.
