Obituary

Funeral services for Chinell Smoots, 82, of Plainview will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church with Pastor David Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Smoots died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, in Plainview. He was born on Feb. 25, 1932, in Plainview, Texas, to Norman and Ruby Wright Smoots. He married Charles Etta Hall on Jan. 22, 1972, in Plainview. He worked at the Co-op Compress for 16 years and at Excel Beef Packing Plant for 36 years. He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Charles Etta Smoots; two sons, Tyson and Angela Smoots of Dallas and Damien and Belinda Nails of Plainview; four daughters, Tiffany and Corrie Williams of Lubbock, Evelyn Thompson of Antioch, Tennessee, Elaine and David Boit of Lubbock and Shirley and Herbert Buard of Mesquite; 19 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one son, Norman Smoots; one sister, Venita Jackson; and both parents.
