Funeral services for Bettie Smith, 81, of Tulia will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Church of Christ with Bruce Baird, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Plain?view Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mrs. Smith died Sunday, April 4, 2010, in Tulia. She was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Lockney to Frank and Myrtle Messimer. She graduated from Lockney High School and married Elmer Roberts on March 5, 1946. They lived in the Kress area for several years. He died June 6, 1976. She attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University, receiving a degree in food service. She was the food service supervisor at nursing homes in Plainview and Tulia. She won a national award for writing diabetic recipes. She married Russell Smith in 1988. He died in January 1999. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Fowler of Levelland, Phyllis and Ricky Settle of Canton and Kathy and Darrell Nelson of Tulia; one son and daughter-in-law, Frankie and Terri Roberts of Sanger; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Cleta and Johnny Tyree of Wayside and Judy and Denny Fletcher of Washburn, Mo.; one stepson, Russell D. Smith of Rogers, Ark.; two sisters, Ruby Reynolds of Olton and Charlene Hughes of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. Her husbands; one stepson, Aaron Roberts; and four grandchildren are deceased. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association , P.O.
