Funeral services for Dorothy Dean Smith, 73, of Hale Center will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview with the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith died Tuesday Dec. 8, 2009, at her residence. She was born Sept. 1, 1936, in Goldwaithe, Texas, to Ernest and Ruby Miles. She married Roy Dale Smith on Dec. 21, 1953, in Plainview. He died in 1991. She was a member of Seth Ward Baptist Church and of the VFW Auxiliary for 41 years. Her parents; her husband; a son, Gary Smith; one sister; and two brothers are deceased. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Tammy Smith of Hale Center; a daughter, Patsy McCollum of Lubbock; a sister-in-law, Bettye Miles of Sweetwater; one aunt, Althea Clover of Plainview; four grandchildren, Chance McCollum and his wife, Karen, and Lisa McCollum of Lubbock, Marty Edens and her husband, Jimmy, of Gatesville, and Dennis Smith and his wife, Keshia, of Plainview; and four great-grandchildren, Jayton Tipps and Kaitlyn Tipps of Grand Saline and Rylee Edens and Adyson Edens of Gatesville.
