Obituary
Jean Knoohuizen Smith, 88, of Plainview passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Prairie House Living Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Smith was born July 28, 1920, in Plainview, Texas, to R.H. and Myrtle Boyd Knoohuizen. She lived in Plainview until 1935 when the Knoohuizen family moved to Dallas. She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1937 and attended Wayland Baptist College and Texas Technological College. Mrs. Smith lived in Dallas, Denver and Chicago during World War II before returning to Plainview. She married Robert A. Smith on Oct. 10, 1947, in Plainview, Texas. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1976. Mrs. Smith was a committed Christian, devoted wife, sister and mother, and talented artist and musician. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview for most of her life and a member of Chapter BL, P.E.O. for more than 50 years. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Shepelwich and husband, Jim, of Fort Worth; one son, Blaine Smith and wife, Pat, of Plainview; one sister, Mary Knoohuizen; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several close cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one daughter, Cynthia Arden Sanders; and one brother, Ray B. Knoohuizen. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Music Ministry, 205 W.
