Obituary

Edith Jean Smith, 96, passed away on Feb. 18, 2014. Memorial services will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Presbyterian Manor Health Care in Wichita Falls. Graveside services will be held in Plainview at a later date. Edith was born on Oct. 29, 1917, to the late Hugh Springfield and Nancy Jane (Jones) Bridges in Vernon, Texas. She married Red Smith on April 2, 1941, in Lake Charles, La. Edith was a member of First Baptist Church in Plainview. She was a retired registered nurse who spent many years working in the prison ministry and went on many medical mission trips to other countries until she was 90 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband, Red Smith, her parents, Hugh and Nancy Bridges, and 11 brothers and sisters. Edith is survived by two daughters, Nancy Herndon of Ducanville, and Kathy Riggins and her husband Harrel of Iowa Park, and a son, Hugh Smith and his wife Janel of Wichita Falls.
