Obituary

Funeral services for Michael E. Smith, 55, of Plainview, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2006, in Ninth and Columbia Church of Christ of Plainview with Colquitt Nash, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Mr. Smith died at his home, Tuesday morning, March 14, 2006. He was born Oct. 7, 1950 in Plainview and graduated from Hale Center High School. He married Laura Mann on March 9, 1976, in Plainview. He served in the United States Navy. He was employed with Cargill Meats Solutions for 32 years and served on the board of the insurance planning committee. He attended Ninth and Columbia Columbia Street Church of Christ but was a member of First Baptist Church. He was an 18-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous South Plains Group. He was an avid sports fan, following Texas Tech University, Plainview High School and Hale Center High School sports. He was a beloved father, husband and friend. Muttley was the beloved pet and companion to Mike. Seldom did you see them when they weren't together, even leaving this earthly life within a week of each other. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Laura Smith of Plainview; two sons, Denny Price of Lubbock and Randy Price of Albuquerque, N.M., three brothers, Larry Smith of Seattle, Wash, Jack Smith of Mineral Wells and Freddy Smith of Hale Center; and four grandchildren, Mitchell Price, Channing Best, Dalon Ramirez and Keevon Crump. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
